Brooklyn Center, one of the best recognized hotel brands in the country, today announced the opening of the Brooklyn Center Hotel, the first hotel of its kind in the Twin Cities, Minnesota. Known since 1873 as the center of local commerce in the former Brooklyn borough, this rural area has been serving the growing population of Minneapolis with markets and horticulture, and has formed a vibrant community of restaurants, bars, cafes, shops and other businesses. The Brooklyn Centre is the largest hotel in Minnesota and the second largest in North America. It has more than 1,000 rooms, a restaurant and bars, and a variety of retail outlets.

In order to avoid annexation by the expanding city of Minneapolis, the Brooklyn Center was separated from Brooklyn and incorporated in 1873 and then incorporated into Brooklyn County in 1890. The Minnesota Martial Arts Academy, now known simply as the Academy MMA Training Center, is located at the Brooklyn Centre. It offers a variety of martial arts such as boxing, judo, karate, wrestling and other sports.
